The City of Gibbon was pleased to welcome Governor Jim Pillen and Nebraska Department of Water, Energy and Environment Director Jesse Bradley to our community yesterday to highlight the significant investments being made in Gibbon’s drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.
Gibbon is working with DWEE to finalize approximately $15 million in financial assistance through Nebraska’s Drinking Water and Clean Water State Revolving Fund (SRF) programs. These funds will help make two major infrastructure projects possible:
• Development of a new drinking water wellfield to provide Gibbon with a reliable long-term water source and address elevated manganese levels in our existing supply.
• Modernization of Gibbon’s wastewater treatment facility, replacing aging equipment and improving treatment capabilities for our community.
Approximately 42% of the project funding is expected to receive loan forgiveness, with the remaining funding provided through low-interest financing. Compared with private financing alternatives, the SRF assistance is expected to save Gibbon residents an estimated $11–15 million in repayments over the life of the financing.
“For a small community, taking on one major infrastructure project is a huge undertaking. In Gibbon, we’re taking on two — making significant investments in both our drinking water and wastewater systems. Having the State of Nebraska as a partner gives us the opportunity to tackle these projects today and make investments that will serve our community for generations to come.”
— Matt Smallcomb, City Administrator

The City of Gibbon would like to thank Governor Pillen, Director Bradley, the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy and Environment, Mayor Derrick Clevenger, our City Council, staff, engineers and everyone who has helped move these projects forward.
These projects aren’t simply about wells, pipes and treatment equipment. They are about protecting public health, preparing for future growth, being responsible with our residents’ dollars and investing in Gibbon for generations to come.
We’re proud of what our community continues to accomplish and grateful for the partnerships that help make projects of this magnitude possible.
